Biography

Sadie Ruth Darnell Egan, of Fayetteville, GA., died peacefully on Wednesday, August 1, 2012. She was 70.
One of nine siblings, Sadie was born in Fayette County on June 11, 1942, the daughter of William Wade Darnell, Sr. and Sallie Bessie Harris Darnell. She died, surrounded by family, at Southwest Christian Hospice in Union City.
Six siblings preceded her in death: Wade Darnell, Helen Banks, Thelma Bishop, Walter Darnell, Alene Davis all of Fayetteville, and Becky Heidle of Clarkesville.
Surviving are husband, Kenneth W. Egan of Fayetteville; daughter, Michelle Hudson of Marietta; son, Kyle Egan of Fayetteville, and grandchildren, Elinor and Sam Hudson of Marietta, brother, Roger Darnell of Jonesboro, and sister, Martha Matthews of Tyrone. She was “Aunt Sadie” to more than 150 nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A dedicated ministries’ worker, Sadie was a lifetime member of Corinth Baptist Church (now The Connection Church of Jonesboro). She was a long-time employee of Bristol Myers Squibb and of Office Max, where she had many dear friends.
Sadie was consistently kind and welcoming, non-judgmental, accepting of others, and quick to offer encouragement. She worked tirelessly to keep her large extended family close, not only to herself, but also to one another.
Viewing will be at Mowell Funeral Home in Fayetteville on Sunday, August 5, 2012, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Funeral Service will be at The Connection Church in Jonesboro on Monday, August 6, 2012 at 2pm. Interment will follow at Allen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southwest Christian Hospice in Union City where she had volunteered for the last 7 years.
