John David English, 82, of Peachtree City, GA passed away Monday, February 20, 2012. He was born in Atlanta on February 21, 1929 to George Washington English and Pauline Johnson English. John attended Russell High School and Georgia State University. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp as an instructor during the Korean War. He was employed with Georgia Power Company for 40 years, manager payroll accounting for 23 years, the U.S. Post Office in East Point, GA & W.R.C. Smith Publishing Company.
Mr. English was involved in many civic and community organizations. He was a member of East Point Lodge No. 288 F. & A.M.; Hapeville Chapter No. 97 R.A.M.; Hapeville Council No. 23, R & S.M., Coeur de Lion Commander No. 4 K.T.; Yaarab Shrine.
He attended Headland Heights Methodist, Intermediate Youth and Adult Sunday School Teacher, Steward; Dogwood Hills Baptist Church, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Deacon; Southwest Christian Church, Church Treasurer, Deacon and Elder; Legacy Christian Church, Finance Committee Member. Along with his accomplishments, he was involved with the Boy Scout Troop 54, East Point, GA, Explorer Post 154, Eagle Scout and Junior Assistant Scout Master and Cub Scout Cubmaster, Cascade Heights.
Other involvements included Carriage Colony Community Club Director, City of East Point Bond Committee; PTA, L.O. Kimberly Elementary School, Ways and Means Committee for 4 years. Village Park Golf Group, an avid reader, restored antiques, gardener, handy man, jack of all trades, coach of youth baseball and most of all a faithful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years Jean Yarbrough English; father George W. English, mother Pauline Johnson English & brother Bill W. English. Survivors include his son John D. English, Jr., wife Benita, their son David & daughter Martha and Davidís wife Renee; daughter Lynda E. Turner, husband Kenneth G. Jr., their sons Jake and Jeff Turner and their daughter Mindy and husband Adam Beckett; son Bill English, wife Beth, their daughter Shelby and son Candler; great grandchildren Rachel & Luke English and Bethanie Jean Beckett; his dog Sissy and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Carl J. Mowell & Son, Peachtree City with Minister Roy Roberson officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 22, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Legacy Christian Church Building Fund, 213 Fulton Court, Peachtree City, GA 30269.
