Obituary for Solomon "Bud" Adam Saylor

Solomon “Bud” Saylor was born on August 11, 1937 into a small impoverished Appalachian coal mining community. In 1954 he graduated from high school with honors and shortly thereafter enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. During that enlistment, Bud became the youngest person ever to be fully certified as an airport/approach controller at a moderately busy civilian airport. After being honorably discharged, Bud became a Federal Civil Service employee where he advanced quickly earning numerous awards including a Special Presidential Commendation.

Following federal retirement, Bud and his wife, Louise, traveled the world from Hawaii to the Amazon jungle, to Europe, the Alps, to Asia and the Great Wall of China, followed by many other beautiful countries. It was during that period Bud began his years-long battle with cancer.

Bud and his wife, Louise, enjoyed nearly sixty years of happiness but their greatest accomplishment is their four children, Ernest G., Daniel A., Shawn E., and Deborah L., all now adults. They’re very supportive of their families, their communities and their faith. Their marvelous wives are Patty, Jarita and Vicky. Bud and Louise have two grandchildren, Kelly and Adam. Bud is also survived by his treasured sister, Mary Sue of Cincinnati, Ohio. Bud’s long battle with cancer ended March 9, 2018.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Pine Grove Baptist Church, 2479 Highway 92 South, Fayetteville, GA. Burial will follow at the church cemetery, with a reception following the interment. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 PM on March 21, 2018 at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, GA.

In lieu of flowers, Bud sincerely asked that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital,
