Obituary for Rosemary Brooks Hurst

Rosemary Hurst passed away suddenly October 7, 2018 in Senoia, Georgia. She was born Rose Mary Brooks to the late John Foster Brooks and Lois Maxine Connettt, in Mason City, Iowa in 1939.

At the age of 15, Rose met the love of her life, Jim Hurst, at a dude ranch in Tucson, Arizona. It was pretty much love at first sight for both of them and they married shortly after. Jim’s wedding gift to Rose was a saddle, which she kept forever. The Hursts’ started their married life together in Powder Springs, Georgia and later moved to Peachtree City, Georgia, where their family grew.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; three sisters: Julie, Margie and Joan.
She is survived by her six children, Jimmy Hurst, Elin Hurst, Jill (Jim) Hail, Jubie (Kevin) Moore, Joanie (Bill) Moore, and John (Terri) Hurst; grandchildren, Greg Hail, Randy Hail, Niki (Gus) Cabrejos), Ricky Gallegos, and J. B. Hurst; sister, April; numerous nieces and nephews.

Her grandchildren were so dear to her. She loved to spoil them with toys and it made her as happy to give them, as they were to get them.

Rose was artistic, painting everything from canvas to rocks. Rose loved her animals, which included a large assortment of cats, dogs, and horses. But the great love of her life was her husband and her family. She loved to drop in to visit her daughters, who lived close by in Senoia. She cherished her friendships. She liked to spend time growing flowers and she loved cutting grass on her riding lawn mower. She collected miniatures and dollhouses with what some would call an obsession. She never drove by a yard sale without stopping.

She will be missed by many, including those she would see when she made her rounds in downtown Senoia. The town has changed, but she never did. She never met a stranger and talked to everyone. Rose always had a kind word or a little bit of gossip to share.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 2:30 PM at The Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Peachtree City with Chaplain Jim Weathers officiating. Burial will follow at Senoia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1:30 PM, prior to the service.

Flowers, love or a donation in Rose’s name to North American Mission Board’s program “Mission Dignity” (missiondignity.org), an organization her husband worked for and who was so kind to her in her later years, is greatly appreciated.
