Obituary for Michael Edson Bloore

Mike Bloore, age 81, finally dropped off the grid on January 2, 2019, after having enjoyed so very many years of the good life. His enjoyment of computers, aviation, football, model airplanes, and Early Times bourbon is exceeded only by his profound love and admiration for his wife of many years, Mattie who left us way too soon.

Mike is survived by two wonderful, caring daughters, Linda and Lisa (biology be damned); one dear sister, Beverly Ferguson of Byron Center Michigan; two amazing sons-in-law, Hans Segers and Chris Crawford; granddaughters, Jamie and Katelyn; great-granddaughters, Mattie and Bella; great-grandson, Bo Michael, and many, many loved nephews, nieces, and their families.

After graduating from Godwin High School in Grand Rapids Michigan in 1955, Mike attended Michigan State University where he was fortunate to earn a scholarship in the MSU Marching Band. After graduating with a BS Degree in Mathematics from MSU, Mike taught in the Lansing, Michigan School system for 3 years. He then accepted a position with the Oldsmobile Division of General Motors as an IBM mainframe computer programmer/system analyst, and spent the next three years developing commuter program in support of Inventory Control systems at the Oldsmobile Final Assembly in Lansing.

In the fall of 1966, Mike was recruited by Air West Airlines in Phoenix Arizona to help develop an Aircraft Component Inventory Control system for the fleet of aircraft. Thus began a long and very interesting “aviation” adventure, developing and installing similar aircraft inventory systems for Southern Airways in Atlanta Georgia, Hawaiian Airlines in Honolulu, Hawaii, and Flying Tiger Airlines in Los Angeles, California.

After 20 years and hundreds of thousands of miles of air travel (including many trips in bare-bones air freighters), a decision was made to leave the hectic pace of Los Angeles and head back east. Mike and Mattie decided to move to Florida with thoughts of an eventual retirement and settled down in Tampa, Florida. Mike then accepted a position installing Local Area Networks at GTE Credit Corporation (now a part of Verizon Communications).

Mike retired in 1998 and after the tragic passing of Mattie in 2001, moved to a comfortable home on Lake Sinclair, Georgia. There, with the assistance and ever-vigilance of his caring family and wonderful neighbors, he spent his remaining years fishing, watching way too much football, riding his Cushman motor scooter, and building model aircraft….

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville Chapel. Burial will follow at Forest Park City Cemetery, Forest Park, GA. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 PM prior to the service.

Mike’s mantra in his later years was, “Do not regret growing old, for it is a privilege denied to many…”
