Obituary for Linda Ann Payne

Linda Ann Payne, 75, passed away at home on Friday, April 13, 2018 surrounded by her family and friends. She was born on July 17, 1942 in Wheatley, Arkansas to the late Willard E. and Irene DePriest Hicks. Linda was first and foremost a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Linda constantly served her family, friends and community in multiple ways. She was a nurse practitioner with the Fayette County Health Department, played a primary role in the implementation of the School Nursing Clinics in the Fayette County School System, served many years on the Fayette County Planning and Zoning Commission, served as a 7 year volunteer R.N. for the WWII vets of Honor Flight Fayette, and was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Fayetteville.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Kenneth Lawson. She is survived by her husband, Frederick B. Payne; her daughter, Karen Beth Grissom (Dave); her son, Wes Payne (Haley); her grandchildren, Sarah and Steven Frederick, and P. J. Patri; and her brothers, Ed Hicks and Stephen Hicks.

A memorial service will be on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Overton Chapel of Fayetteville First Baptist Church, Fayetteville, GA, with Rev. Terry Thompkins and her brother Ed Hicks officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00-2:00 PM prior to the service.
