Josephine Young Davis Katrosh, 92, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Randoph County, North Carolina the daughter of the late Henry and Luella Davis. She graduated from high school in Thomasville, North Caroling and went on to Ashmore Business College. Josephine received a civil service appointment to serve in the United Sates Naval Department, Bureau of Supply and Accounts and she remained there until 1952, when she married Ralph J. Katrosh on November 21, 1952. They were joined in Holy Matrimony at St. Stephen’s Church in Washington D.C.
After their marriage, Josephine, a beautiful woman reflecting on our Creator’s Grace, devoted her life to supporting and mentoring her son Mark, daughter, Paula and her husband, who was an operations officer in the Central Intelligence Agency.
For more than 30 years, 21 of those she lived abroad, she represented her country with courage, dignity and a quite gentle patriotism. Josephine earned a deep respect and admiration from our Country’s friends as well as from our antagonists and enemies. In Taiwan, the British Crown colony of Singapore, Burma, Philippines, Malaysia, and Israel, she won the hearts of all who knew and remembered her beautiful continence constant smile and her Christian strength and values. To know “Jo” was to be captivated by her presence.
In her later years, at her home in Bethesda, Maryland she enjoyed the well-earned recognition of her colleagues and the quiet times spent with her Sodality, quilters, readers, charity projects and her extended family. There were trips back to some of her favorite places, particularly Israel, as well as visiting friends and family here in her home land. In 2012, she and Ralph moved to Peachtree City, Georgia to be closer to their daughter, Paula.
A memorial Mass was held for Josephine on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at 11:00 AM in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Peachtree City, Georgia. Arrangements are under the care of Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home.
