Obituary for Joseph Thomas "Tom" Best, Jr.

Joseph Thomas “Tom” Best, Jr., 72, of Fayetteville, passed away December 4, 2017. He was born on March 3, 1945 in Thunderbolt, Georgia to the late Joseph Thomas and Margaret Starkey Farr, Sr.

Tom retired from Delta Air Lines after 36 years of service in various customer service positions at Hartsfield International Airport. His personality of having fun, joking, and loving people made this job one that he truly looked forward to going to each and every day.

He resided in Fayetteville, Georgia and is survived by his wife of 34 years, Faye O. Best; and his three children Joseph Thomas (Tommy) Best, III, Patrick Kent Best, and Dorothy (Dottie) Margaret Best Schnyder; five grand children Sloane Best, Joseph Thomas (J.T.), IV, Riley Best, Etta Schnyder, and Anna Schnyder; two brothers, Paul Best and Jeffrey Best, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law.
And last but not least, a Mother-In-Law better known as “Louie” to him... that he helped coddle and care for, 17 years

His interests span a variety of areas:
He enjoys helping others with anything they might need. All it takes is a beer and one’s ability to take his picking and poking.
He is a wonderful cook and is happy his wife didn’t like to because he didn’t like to mow grass and worked out a deal with her.
He is a sailor and took many trips with his best buddies, Larry Bankston and John Bowling. Later he took on the task of teaching his wife how to work the boat.
He enjoys growing orchids and African Violets.
In earlier years, he fiddled at bee keeping and as of late, found his way back to it. More recently he has begun raising chickens. In other words….Tom has taught us all about the birds and bees!
Tom is a “Critter Man.” He has raised many different critters, including horses and Labrador Retrievers.

For years before retiring, one of his favorite Christmas traditions was working the Military Lounge, serving food for our service men that were traveling during the holidays through the airport.

Just Remember, Best could ALWAYS dish it OUT, but he could never TAKE it!
