Obituary for Eugene "Gene" Bailey

Eugene “Gene” Bailey, born on August 25, 1926 in Valdosta, Georgia, passed away on March 6, 2018. He was the son of the late Henry and Christina Russell Bailey and the husband to Fredricka Bryant Bailey, resident of Fayetteville, Georgia.

Eugene was a WW II Veteran and after his honorable discharge, moved to Miami, Florida, where he worked as a printer and purchasing officer for City National Bank of Miami Beach, Florida.

Gene, as he was known to all, met Fredricka in Miami, Florida and they married on April 28, 1973. Their marriage was one of love and respect for each other. Gene loved cooking breakfast and those who came to visit waited in anticipation for his famous grits, eggs, and salmon.

Gene was loved by many. He had a mild, humble disposition and demonstrated those qualities in always caring for others, especially the elderly widows in his congregation. His enjoyment came from working in his yard, priding himself in his gardening skills. He also loved fishing and would look forward to his fishing trips and fish fries with Jake. He was fond of traveling, especially cruising, and was known to often dance the night away.
Gene and Fredricka spent many days walking on the beaches of Florida, observing the sunsets and giving praise to their Grand Creator, Jehovah God. Gene came to know and love Jehovah through his study of the Bible, developing a very close, personal relationship with Him and symbolizing his dedication to do God’s will, by water baptism in December, 1996 in Miami Florida. He attended the North Peachtree City Congregation in Fayetteville, Georgia where he served as a Ministerial Servant.

Gene was preceded in death by his daughter, Caroline Bailey. He is survived by his wife, Fredricka Bryant Bailey; sisters, Leola Bailey and Janie M. Spence; stepson, John W. Johnson III; stepdaughter, Jacqueline J. Kinloch (Leon); granddaughters, Loreal Young (Arda) and Crystal Sperdutos; grandson, Walter Bailey; step-grandsons, John W. Johnson IV (Kentara) and Eric J. Johnson (Monique); six great-grandchildren; five sister-in-laws; one brother-in-law; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition, he is survived by his spiritual daughter, Mentoria Lewis (Winston) and his spiritual son, Harlan Woodard.
