Obituary for Charles Robert "Swabby" Beasley

Charles Robert “Swabby” Beasley, 80, of Atlanta, passed away June 15, 2017, from a sudden aneurysm. Charles served in the Vietnam War as an aircraft mechanic, serving on several different aircraft carriers. He served a total of 20 years in the United States Navy. After he retired from the Navy, he was employed by the City of Atlanta as a hydraulic mechanic.

Charles had a great love of riding and building pro-dragster motorcycles that took him from coast to coast working with the team to break records with top racers. That love trickled down to his daughter, Cheryl, who eventually owned her own motorcycle shop. Charles was a member of the Sons of The Confederate Soldiers and participated in Civil War re-enactments. He was a member of the following Masonic organizations: P.M. Ben Hill 634, Fayetteville 711, P.H.P., P.I.M., P. Comm Coeur de Lion #4, KYCH 56, 33rd Deg A.A.S.R., VEDG Comm. of K.T. of GA, AMD 312. He was a long time member of Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church, where he served as Trustee Chair. It was a joy for him to serve and preserve the buildings of Fulton County’s oldest historic church off Camp Creek Parkway in Atlanta (Ben Hill). He and his wife were recently honored for their service and dedication.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, William and Margaret Irene Zorendt of Atlanta. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Betty Beasley; daughters, Cheryl (William Aardie) Palmer of Hapeville, GA, Deanne Fessenden of Gainesville, FL, Melinda (Mike) Edwards of Douglasville, GA, and Regana (William Alexander) Beasley of Blue Ridge, GA; seven grandchildren, Tiffanie Camp, Chevis Dingman, Ryan Fessenden, Kyle Fessenden, Stephen Edwards, Robert Edwards, and Crystal Jackson; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, with Pastor Eric Sloth officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 19, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Knights Templar Eye Foundation,
