Dear Brenda, Vicki and I regret the loss of Ray. Since Vicki doesn't know Ray or you, I briefly told her about you and Ray and then I got to reminiscing about the good ol days. Good times at church and school. Sitting in the front yard listening to your daddy play that fiddle. I could go on and on but let me just say that God will see you through this because you can receive no greater love or no greater comfort than from the Lord Jesus Christ. He has brought us through many things and what he brings you to, he will bring you through. This we know because we buried my Dad last November, we bury our son tomorrow. God bless. Brenda: My husband Chris was a friend of Ray's . Chris always talked about Ray and how compassionate he was and what a big heart he had. When my husband was ill, we had the opportunity to be recipients of Ray's kind and loving ways. As Ray entered Heaven, God put his arms around him, thanked him for the wonderful things he did on earth, and said "welcome home". May time help to ease your grief. Betty Christian, 6/29/09. Brenda, Words cannot express the sadness we share with you and your family. Yet, we rejoice in knowing that He has made his journey well, and is in Heaven with Jesus, the one that loves us all so much. He lived and good life and cared so much for others. He had a heart of a Servant. Yes, he will be missed. We will be praying that God will be with you (and I know He will) as you face the days ahead. If we can be of help to you, please let us know. God Love you and so do we. Cecil and Arlene Murrell Cecil and Arlene Murrell (SEFL retiree @NAT) on 6/29/2009 at 4:58 PM

We are sorry for your loss. We both drive for SEFL and met Ray often. He was a big hearted guy and will be missed. Bill & Naomi Henson (SEFL HIC) on 6/29/2009 at 5:22 PM

I was so sorry to hear about Ray's death. I worked with him over 34 years. Like all the others that have posted their feelings, Ray had the biggest heart of anyone I ever knew. He cared more about his company than any other employee that ever worked there. He dedicated his life to his employer, and I am so sorry of the way he was treated by them in the last few years he was there. He was a fine man, and deserved much more respect than he got from them. He will always be remembered for his quick laugh, his teasing others, and for the way he was always there to offer a helping hand to all of us. He will be especially rembered for the hours he spent after getting off the clock taking up donations for others who were hurt, and for the widows of those we had lost. No one will ever do the things Ray has done for others. I wish his family the best, and know you all had a familiy member who was loved and respected by others. Randy and Carol Coggins on 6/29/2009 at 6:28 PM

Brenda, I was shocked to hear about your loss, Ray was just in the prime of his life. His work here on earth is finished so he was taken to his eternal home. May the Lord comfort you in your time of grief. Louise Hall on 6/29/2009 at 7:09 PM

Dear Brenda, Jason and Jennifer, I love y'all. I'm sorry I haven't seen you in a while. I'm still in China. After the initial shock and sadness when mama called me my best friend came over to be with me. After I stopped crying I started telling her stories about uncle Ray. I couldn't help but start laughing. He was such a character and was such an important part of my life. I loved him very much. I will be praying for the 3 of you and daddy to be able to see God's grace even in the midst of such sorrow. Heather Couch on 6/30/2009 at 9:08 AM

Brenda, Jennifer, Jason, Hadyn, Rob, Jackie, Virginia, Diane, As we all tell Ray goodbye, we know that he left a wonderful legacy to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him and most importantly for his everlasting love for his family. I remember my first acquaintance with Ray was meeting him shortly after completing his tour of duty with the Marines in Vietnan and seeing him drive a sporty 1967 yellow Camaro. We introduced him to my beautiful cousin and they were later united in a loving marriage. He will be missed but certainly not forgotten. Gloria Crawford on 7/1/2009 at 12:54 PM

Some of you knew him as Superdawg, Rappin Ray in his Chevrolet, the magic man or more commonly as Big Ray. I knew him as a father figure, a neighbor and a friend to say the least. Today the final chapter in his book of life was closed and a fine man was laid to rest. I’ve know Ray nearly all my 29 years, one thing I know for sure is that Ray was smiling down at his respectful memorial service. He was carried to his final resting place by none other than the few, the proud, the Marines! What an honor to hear TAPS and see 13 Marines performing the 21 gun salute to one of their fallen. Eww Rah…..Semper Fi! I’ve never had chills in 90 degree weather until today! Ray had the biggest heart of anyone I’ve ever known and he was as tough as woodpecker lips. Ray was always willing to make self sacrifices, whether it was in the jungles of Vietnam or at Southeastern taking up money for co-workers in need. Ray was always there to lend a helping hand or provide advice and support when things were in disarray. Big Ray was my role model and taught me many things, what a blessing for me to know him. He always would say “truck drivers know everything, if you don’t believe it ask one of ‘em.” He could make you smile when you were down and I’ve never seen him lift a finger in anger. The spirit of God saturated his heart and soul. His illuminate face and his kind gestures proved this! I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that Big Ray is in the house of the Lord and knowing this is what will give us all strength to carry on. Brenda, Jason and Jennifer, you will continue to be in our prayers and ya’ll know that if you need anything we’re here. May peace and tranquility surround you all during this difficult time and your hearts and minds be filled with the joyous memories of the good time we all shared with Ray. In Christ Jesus’ name I ask, Amen. Love always: Sheri, Russ, and Joe. The Teets on 7/2/2009 at 4:35 PM

I work at Ray's doctors office. I just wanted to tell you how much he brightened my day. I was crushed to hear of his passing. I will pray for your family's comfort and God's grace. I will miss him terribly. Rebecca Reisinger on 7/2/2009 at 7:47 PM

Brenda, Jennifer & Jason-- I just can't stop thinking about Ray & what he meant to me. I can't imagine how you all are hurting now, but I know that time will heal your hearts and the love you have for this Man will continue to grow forever. May God bless you now & know that this great Man will be missed by many. I love you guys! Sharon Davis on 7/2/2009 at 9:32 PM

There is so much to say that right now I can't even form all the words and thought; however, the one thing that I know is that Ray knew love. He knew love, he showed love and taught other how to love. I'm glad God gave us Ray and gave us time to love him as much as he loved us. Brenda, Jennifer and Jason you were all so lucky to have Ray and know you can't wait to see him again. Love and Hugs! Danny & Katrina (Couch) Dodson on 7/6/2009 at 4:41 PM

Dad and Mom aren't "internet people" as they say, but they wanted me to post a note that they love all of you and will always be there for each of you if you need anything. Jackie, Diane, Brenda, Jennifer and Jason, please keep in touch with them because the news updates always meant the world to them. Stop in when you can, they love spending time with you. Marvin and Patsy Couch on 7/6/2009 at 4:46 PM

Wendi and I wanted to let Ms. Brenda, Jennifer, Jason, and the family know how sorry we were to hear about Mr. Ray. He was one of the first "dads" to teach us some of our ball playing skills. He was always such a character...and didnt even know how funny he was :> I ran into him several years back and he remembered me and asked about my family. He was a truly kind-hearted man who thought of others first and I know you guys will carry on the love and kindness he passed down. We all remember him fondly and send our love!
