Eunice Steed JensenDate of DeathEunice Florence Steed Jensen, of Fayetteville, was born September 11, 1921 in Atlanta, Georgia. She was the only daughter of the late Charles E. and Eddie Lou Steed of Fairburn. She graduated from Fulton High in 1939. She married Harold Jensen on November 7, 1944 in Atlanta. He has been her loving husband for 64 years. They were blessed with a daughter, Jerre. Jerre now resides in Woodbine, Maryland with her husband, Ed. Eunice and Harold moved often throughout the south and southwest due to Harold’s Air Force duties as a transport pilot and as an FAA air traffic controller. Eunice made a loving home in each location, no matter how short the stay. They moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1956 where they lived until 1971 when Harold retired. They then moved to Fayetteville to be closer to Eunice’s family. Eunice worked as a medical assistant and secretary, both in Florida and Fayetteville. She retired from Sam’s Clinic in Fayetteville in 1985. Eunice was a loving wife, mother and daughter; she cared for her parents until their deaths. A gardening enthusiast, Eunice took joy in surrounding her homes with beautiful flowers and trees. She planted huge vegetable gardens, sharing the bounty with friends and neighbors then canned and preserved to stock her pantry. She continued directing gardening activities until shortly before her death. She was a skilled stained glass artisan, loved to paint and make art projects. Eunice loved animals of all kinds and rescued “critters” in the wild and would nurse them back to health. Despite many health issues, she had great tenacity and a desire to overcome impairments that would have sidelined others.
Many will mourn her passing; husband, Harold, devoted daughter, Jerre Jensen, son-in-law, Edward H. Allen, aunt Virginia Prichard, cousins Cheryl Bryant and Paul Prichard. Family in Royal, Iowa; brother and sister-in-law, Leslie and Elna Jensen, niece, Beverly Winter and nephew Larry Jensen. She also leaves behind great nieces and nephews and many supportive friends.
The family would like to thank Eunice and Harold’s loving and devoted caregivers, Abi Truax, Ammie Truax, Dianne Stagner, Donya Stagner, Jaclyn White and Lauren McDonald. Without their wonderful 24 hour a day care, Eunice and Harold would not have been able to stay in their home and enjoy their loving environment.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Justin Kollmeyer officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Interment Holly Hill Memorial Park. Family will receive friends Wednesday, November 19, 2008 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, make contributions, in her honor, to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
