Jerry C. Parks age 72, formerly of Atlanta died Friday, November 14, 2008 at Dogwood Forest of Fayetteville after a long illness. Jerry was born in Atlanta in 1936, graduated from Russell High School and served in the U.S. Navy for eight years. Mr. Parks retired from Ziegler Tools and had a passion for art and golf. He and his wife Catherine “Honey” Parks were oil and water color artists and won many awards at art shows around the country. He also served as President of the Sugar Creek Men’s Golf Association in Atlanta and played in numerous golf tournaments in Georgia, Mississippi and Nevada. He is preceded in death by his wife Catherine “Honey” Parks, his sisters Geneva Rideout, Claudine Parks, Zulene Parks, Lenice Lester and brother James Parks. He is survived by one sister Mary Jo Walters of Atlanta; three nieces; one nephew; six great-nieces; four great-nephews; eight great-great nieces and six great-great nephews.
A memorial service will be Saturday, November 22, 2008, 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Carl J. Mowell and Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1:30 PM until the time of service. Mr. Parks was cremated. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Mr. Parks’s memory to the Sugar Creek Men’s Golf Association (SCGMA)-Junior Golf Program, Sugar Creek Golf Course 2706 Bouldercrest Rd.
