David Wesley Redmond, Sr., 63, of Fayetteville, Ga., lost his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on January 24, 2010. He was born in Belzoni, Miss., on January 13, 1947 to Joe Eddie and Mary (Hawkins) Redmond. He was the youngest of four children. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brothers Charles and James. He graduated from McNair High School (Belzoni, Miss.) in 1965 and was the first in his family to earn a college degree. While working full time in a factory and raising four children he earned a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan State University (business administration) in August 1981.
On September 24, 1965, he married his high school sweetheart Evelyn Jean Willis. It was in 1965 - following high school graduation - which they moved from Belzoni to Maywood, Ill. In 1970 the family relocated to Romulus, Mich., where he began working for BASF Corporation. In 1979, having advanced at BASF from the factory to the sales force, the family relocated to Evansville, Ind. He retired from the company in 2007 as a Regional Manager in the Agrichemicals Division. Finding himself bored in retirement, he went to work for Stoller USA (based in Houston, Texas) where he worked as a sales force manager until the time of his death. David was also an avid drag racing fan and owned a drag racing car.
David holds two U.S. patents. He received the first on Feb. 23, 1999, for his invention, the RodChek Fixture. He received his second patent Sept.1, 2009, for the digital RodChek Fixture.
David Wesley Redmond, Sr. is survived by his wife, Evelyn Jean; daughters Gwendolyn of Novi, Mich.; Pamela of Newington, Conn.; Daviette Michelle (Anthony) of Fayetteville, Ga.; and son David Wesley, Jr. (Aisha) of Smyrna, Ga. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Tillman (Charles) of Markham, Ill. He also leaves to cherish his memory grandchildren Natosha, Nakia, Morgan, Marissa and Devin as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He also leaves behind close personal friends of more than 40 years Larry Williams and Willie Welch.
Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 29 at 1:00pm at the Mowell Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville, Ga. with Pastor Howard W. Creecy, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Memorial Park in Fayetteville. The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Mowell Funeral Home in Fayetteville, 180 Jeff Davis Drive.
