Cremation is a personal decision that many people favor.
That decision, however, does not preclude the valuable need for closure and a service. We offer many services that help families cope with the loss of a loved one and satisfy the psychological needs for those that are dealing with grief.
One of the most important things a family can do is to have a service. Whether it be a funeral with the body present or a memorial service with an urn present, the ceremony is very important. This is one of the beginning steps toward grief recovery. The service is personalized with special songs and/or poems. Ministers and friends share favorite memories. And everyone has an opportunity to remember their loved one.
What many people do not realize is that someone can have all the aspects of a traditional funeral and have the cremation take place after the service. One of our most popular services is for a funeral service here in our chapel or at the church with a viewing, usually the night before. This allows everyone to gather and honor someone who has passed away. The body is open for viewing which allows closure for many friends and relatives. The service itself pays tribute to a life lived.
The only difference is after the ceremony, we go to the crematory rather than the cemetery. The cremains are then returned to the family. Families can then either bury the cremains, divide or scatter the cremains, or choose to keep them at home in a special place.
Many people choose to just have a visitation followed by the cremation. This allows for the family to be surrounded by loved ones during their loss. Everyone can come together at the funeral home for the viewing and express condolences personally as well as view the body. A visitation without the body present is another option. Usually a memory table with the urn and a picture is set up surrounded by flowers and memorabilia. The visitation is also a time to look at old pictures, watch DVD tributes, and share favorite stories. We can also assist a family by having just a remembrance viewing. This is limited to just family, but it allows them to say goodbye.
Our goal is to help a family cope with the loss of a loved one. Whatever the need is, we want to meet it. Whether it be a funeral or memorial service or maybe just a private family viewing, we are here to help however we can.
